PICHULIK embraces sustainability from a human perspective. Our designs are intentionally handcrafted to build the social equity of our crafters and preserve their skills. All pieces are assembled and showcased in our studio in Cape Town City Centre in order to promote the development of our local economy.
Our commitment to sustainability includes: Paying our crafters above market remuneration; Investing in our producers and supply chain; Mentoring and training our team members to grow them into higher-skilled jobs within PICHULIK; Prioritising the health of our team by following strict health and safety procedures. Engaging the services of a Xhosa facilitator to translate internal communication and facilitate dialogue, thereby ensuring equal agency through language and understanding.
From a packaging perspective, our dust bags are made from offcuts; our tissue paper is acid-free, FSC certified, biodegradable and recyclable; our description tags areproduced in environmentally-friendly paper mills; our brand tags are recyclable; and our retail partner packaging is compostable.
We are passionately committed to recycling everything possible in our studio. We design in a way that enables us to reuse off cuts and reinvent seasonal misfits, thereby minimizing our waste. Furthermore, we encourage our local community of loyal customers to refresh their hand-wrapped PICHULIK pieces by bringing them into our studio to be re-wrapped, thereby providing a welcome antidote to fast fashion
